I started teaching myself how to bead after encouragement from my Uŋči (grandmother) and being gifted some beads from a close friend. After learning of my Auntie's murder at St. Paul's boarding school in Marty, South Dakota, I made my first pair to wear during Native Women Running's 5/10km Run + Walk on Orange Shirt Day.
One common issue among beaders is not knowing how to price their beadwork. I wanted to develop something to alleviate the problem, especially seeing as many of us manage everything independently. I found an incredible resource created by Breanna Deis that I used as the framework for Iyáwapi, an inventory management and pricing tool. Iyáwapi means "pricing" in Dakhóta.
